New SMHS Board Member Professor Mark Khangure has a wealth of experience in health service delivery and management, with more than 35 years in the UK, USA and Australian health sectors.

Having led various radiology departments and units at Sir Charles Gairdner and Royal Perth hospitals, Prof Khangure has overseen the establishment of new services, staff engagement, budget management and clinical service delivery.

For the past 15 years, Prof Khangure has held a range of leadership positions with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), including two years as President.

As a result, he has been involved in many successful negotiations with government and hospital administrators.

Prof Khangure said his understanding of the need to manage demand within limited budgets, as well as his commitment to staff engagement and patient care, would serve him well as a member of the SMHS Board.

“As SMHS continues to evolve, we must engage with staff and adapt to the ever-changing healthcare environment,” Prof Khangure said.

“My aim is to see teamwork at its best to deliver first-class and safe patient care, along with a happy and cohesive workforce.”

Prof Khangure said the sharing of ideas was vital for the SMHS Board to have a meaningful impact.

“A well-informed board with its finger on the pulse will help ensure safety is at the forefront and embedded into all SMHS practices,” he said.

“I am excited to be part of that commitment.”
