SMHS Board Member Michelle Manook

Beginning her career as an alcohol and drug counsellor specialising in youth drug and alcohol issues, Michelle Manook has had a long-standing interest in community health.

For the last 20 years, Michelle has worked as a senior executive in the resources, energy and aged care sectors, and along with her earlier community health background, she brings extensive corporate, commercial and risk management experience to the SMHS Board.

As an active community health advocate, Michelle is looking forward to working with the SMHS Board to ensure the health service continues to achieve its strategic priorities.

“WA is fortunate to have a first-class health service operating in the south metropolitan area, and as board members we are entrusted to ensure it can continue to meet community needs and expectations both today and in the years to come,” Michelle said.

Reflecting on her decision to join the SMSH Board, Michelle said was looking forward to using her corporate sector experience to make a meaningful contribution in an area that she has always cared deeply about.

“Throughout my career, I’ve maintained a strong interest in community health and I’m grateful to be given such an exceptional opportunity to reconnect with and contribute to my community in this way,” Michelle said.

“The challenges and opportunities in the WA health sector are not dissimilar to those experienced in many corporate organisations, and I’m looking forward to transferring my corporate sector learnings to the SMHS as we navigate the evolving health landscape.”

Michelle will be working with the SMHS Board to achieve its vision of providing the community with seamless access to innovative, safe, high quality health care. In support of this, Michelle intends to bring a focus to the:

  • provision of safe, innovative care
  • setting of clear and realistic service objectives
  • management of workforce and financial resources
  • need for transparency and good governance.
