Postgraduate training for junior medical officers

Postgraduate Medical Council of WA

The Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia (PMCWA) has a number of resources to support junior medical officers (JMOs) working in WA.

Resources

Specialist training

Specialist trainees in WA have access to a wide range of clinical settings including:

  • complex quaternary and tertiary medical services
  • regional health services
  • remote area medicine
  • retrieval services.

Specialist training posts are located in metropolitan and country hospitals with training posts in country hospitals available to junior doctors and specialist trainees on rotation from metropolitan hospitals as well as doctors employed by WA County Health Service (WACHS).

As entry to clinical training programs is competitive, JMOs are advised to investigate training opportunities early by speaking with their Director of Clinical Training (external site) or staff in the Department of Postgraduate Medical Education (external site) at their tertiary hospital.

The Medical Board of Australia provides further information on the current list of medical specialties, fields of specialty practice and related specialist titles (external link).
