WA Health is committed to improving the health of Aboriginal people and providing staff with access to Aboriginal Cultural Learning is a priority in achieving this outcome.
The WA Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Framework 2015-2030 (PDF 10MB) identifies ‘a culturally respectful and non-discriminatory health system’ as a WA Health strategic direction.
This can be achieved by providing Aboriginal cultural education and training opportunities which builds the health system’s capacity, capability and responsiveness to service the health needs of Aboriginal people living in Western Australia.
Embedded in cultural learning is increasing staff’s understanding of Aboriginal perspectives in:
- day-to-day involvement with Aboriginal clients and colleagues
- service delivery and design
- policy and planning at all levels.
The A/Director General has mandated that all WA Health staff complete the online training Aboriginal Cultural eLearning - a healthier future (ACeL), one of four online components of the WA Health Aboriginal Cultural Learning Package (ACLP).
The ACLP comprises a suite of online tools and resources designed to support the development of a culturally respectful and non-discriminatory health system. The four components include:
The WA Health Aboriginal Cultural eLearning – a healthier future and the Aboriginal Cultural Learning Package is available to all WA Health staff through the Department of Health’s Learning Management System or through their Health Service’s Learning Management System.
