Carnarvon residents are set to benefit from the completion of an upgrade to the Carnarvon Health Campus emergency department.

The ED has been refurbished to meet cyclone standards and to bring the best possible emergency health care to residents of Carnarvon and surrounding communities.

Emergency telehealth facilities will also be available to give 24/7 access to the WA Country Health Service team of emergency medicine specialists.

The ED opened to patients on 5 November after a staged transition starting the day before.

The newly refurbished ED is part of the Carnarvon Health Campus redevelopment, which will bring key health services under the same roof to create a modern, purpose-built healthcare hub.

In addition to two state-of-the-art resuscitation bays and four treatment bays, the improved ED includes Carnarvon's first-ever purpose-built mental health assessment room.

There are also three consulting rooms for visiting specialists and a new triage booth that has been designed to improve the flow of patients and to ensure all patients are seen, assessed and treated as soon as possible.
