Applications are now open for round five of the Telethon Perth Children’s Hospital Research Fund (TPCHRF).
The TPCHRF is a collaboration of the Department of Health and Channel 7 Telethon Trust and is open to Western Australian research activities that focus on the health and wellbeing of children and/or adolescents.
The program provides two streams of funding:
- Short-term Research Project Grants, for projects that address areas of direct significance to child and adolescent health
- Strategic Research Initiative Grants, for strategic and innovative initiatives that have the potential to increase child and adolescent health research capacity in Western Australia, thereby leading to improvements in research productivity and translational impact.
This year special initiative funding is available for health service-led research in short-term research stream.
Applications close: 1.00pm Monday, 3 April 2017.
In the program’s fourth round, 15 projects shared in $4 million of funding.
Among short-term projects that benefitted from the fourth round was a study to determine the best treatment options for women at risk of a pre-term birth, an assessment of how whooping cough immunisation in pregnancy could affect the infant’s response to later vaccination and a study to see if restoring circadian rhythm in pre-term infants could improve the newborns’ health outcomes.
Recipients of funding in the strategic initiatives stream were set to benefit the fields of type 1 diabetes, personalised medicine and human microbial ecologies.
