The new BreastScreen WA (BSWA) clinic at the Wanneroo ECU Health Centre is now open.

The new site has replaced the Joondalup Clinic and provides easier access to screening mammograms for local women with an additional screening unit, ample free parking, easy access to public transport and improved facilities for women with disabilities.

The new clinic is also intended to cope with a growth in demand for screening services. The female population in the Joondalup-Wanneroo district between the ages of 40 and 74 is expected to grow by more than 12,000 over the next six years.

BreastScreen WA Medical Director Dr Liz Wylie said she was pleased with the new location and hoped it would encourage more women to get screened.

“Our new clinic’s location will make it easier for women to get to their appointments, whether by car or public transport. We look forward to seeing even more women in this growing catchment booking in for their screening,” Dr Wylie said.

BSWA provides free breast screening mammograms to WA women aged 40 years and over, but specifically targets women aged 50-74 years who are invited to attend a screening mammogram appointment every two years.

Screening mammograms are a simple and effective way of finding a cancer at an early stage, meaning it is still small and is much more treatable

“A free screening mammogram is one of the best things that women can do to look after their health and it only takes 20 minutes,” Dr Wylie said.

“Early detection and treatment may save many lives.”

BSWA has eight other metropolitan clinics: Cannington, Cockburn, Padbury, Midland, Mirrabooka, Perth City, David Jones Rose Clinic (Hay St Perth) and Rockingham.

Women aged 40 years and over who have attended the service before and women who have received their invitation to attend, can book an appointment at any of BSWA’s Perth metropolitan clinics by visiting BreastScreen WA (external site). Telephone bookings may still be made by calling 13 20 50.
