A program of daily tours is giving Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) staff and volunteers a unique opportunity to visit Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) before the completion of the construction phase.

More than 700 staff so far have attended a tour of PCH as part of the program.

Twenty tour leaders were selected from an assortment of professions across PMH and specially trained to lead their colleagues on a general route through the building.

The tour visits the Emergency Department, a patient ward, outpatient clinics, Day Treatment Unit, Allied Health clinic, indoor and outdoor play space and some staff amenities.

Highlights include spectacular views over Kings Park, an orientation to the main atrium and the new and modern clinical and non-clinical facilities.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with most of the staff impressed by the colours, natural light and child friendly design and saying the tour has increased their understanding of PCH.

This is the first time that many staff have visited the new hospital as they begin the process of familiarisation in their new workspaces.

Six tours are running per week-day over three timeslots. It is expected that 2000 staff will have visited PCH by the end of the program.

New Health Minister John Day took the opportunity to view the hospital’s features by joining a tour recently.
