Congratulations to WA Health trio Chris Brennan-Jones, James Fitzpatrick and Tim Rosenow – all staff members of Princess Margaret Hospital – who are among 15 finalists in this year’s Premier’s Science Awards.

The awards celebrate science engagement programs and excellence in research from students, early career researchers and established scientists and will be announced by the Premier on August 18.

Dr Fitzpatrick is a finalist in the Woodside Early Career Scientist of the Year category and has been nominated for his work on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, including pioneering new diagnosis and intervention strategies. Dr Fitzpatrick is the clinical lead of PMH’s rural paediatric service.

Mr Brennan-Jones and Mr Rosenow have both been nominated in the ExxonMobil Student Scientist of the Year category.

Mr Brennan-Jones is a senior audiologist at PMH and a senior research fellow at the Ear Science Institute of Australia. His research has focused on improving access to – and efficiency of – aural healthcare services in Western Australia.

Mr Rosenow works in paediatric respiratory medicine at PMH and is also a researcher at the Telethon Kids Institute. His research has resulted in a new method for measuring structural lung disease in infants and young children using chest CT scans.

The Premier’s Science Awards, now in their 15th year, pay tribute to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Western Australia.

The awards, presented over four categories, are announced during National Science Week in conjunction with the newest inductee into Western Australia’s Science Hall of Fame.
