Project: WA Trachoma Program

The WA Trachoma Program is on track to achieve its aim of eliminating blinding trachoma from Aboriginal communities across WA by 2020.

Established in 2006 from individual trachoma programs based in the Kimberley, Goldfields, Pilbara and Midwest, the Program has led to a coordinated approach to trachoma control between regions.

The Program has enjoyed excellent acceptance within Aboriginal communities and with Aboriginal people, and has reduced the rates of trachoma infection in rural and remote Aboriginal communities from 24 per cent in 2006 to 2.6 per cent in 2015.
