Cases
For the purposes of this report, patients are referred to as cases. This is because a patient may be on an elective surgery waiting list for more than one procedure. For example, if a patient is on a waiting list twice, for two different procedures, this will be counted as two cases.
Within boundary cases
A patient who has been waiting less than the recommended period for their clinical urgency category is defined as being within boundary. The clinical urgency categories prioritise patients from least urgent (Category 3 within 365 day) to most urgent (Category 1 within 30 days), as determined by the treating Specialist.
Category 1
Procedures that are clinically indicated within 30 days.
Category 2
Procedures that are clinically indicated within 90 days.
Category 3
Procedures that are clinically indicated within 365 days.
Over boundary cases
A patient who has been waiting more than the recommended period in one of the three clinical urgency categories is defined as being over boundary.
