Visiting Medical Practitioners – Supplementary Fee for Service Guidelines – Provision of Additional Services – Attendance and Residential Shifts – Metropolitan General Hospitals

A Visiting Medical Practitioner (VMP) engaged under a Medical Services Agreement (MSA) may be contracted under the MSA to provide, on a fee for service basis, a range of additional services not covered by the Western Australian Government Medical Services Schedule (WAGMSS).

This Operational Directive sets out the rate for additional services for Residential cover and associated Attendance cover.

“Residential Shift Roster” means an a close-call roster which includes the provision of overnight accommodation away from the practitioners normal place of residence on or in close proximity to a hospital to facilitate attendance for duty within 15 minutes of a call.

“Attendance Shift Roster” means a roster operating in conjunction with a Residential Shift Roster

Where an agreement is reached to provide services, on an ad-hoc or continuing basis, under a combination of residential and attendance rosters the hourly rate fees are as detailed in the Schedules to this Operational Directive. These fees will apply in lieu of any WAGMSS fee which might otherwise be claimable.

The hourly rates will be reviewed annually. The rates will be increased, with effect from 1 January each year by not less than the annual (1 January to 31 December) Consumer Price Index for Perth Western Australia (CPI) for the preceding 12 month period and by not more than the WAGMSS Medical Fee Index (MFI).

The hourly rate on-call fee where residential and attendance services are not provided under a combination of residential and attendance rosters remains $15.53 per hour. This rate will be reviewed with effect from 1 January each year.
