Access for Privately Practising Endorsed Eligible Midwives
Western Australian women have indicated they want to access high quality safe maternity care, as close to home as possible; that provide care across the continuum – from early pregnancy, at the time of birth and during the postnatal period.
Recent reviews and strategies developed by Australian governments have responded to demand and focussed on the need for a range of models of care to be made available to women.
The development of the state-wide policy for Endorsed Eligible Midwives ensures that Health Service Providers support safe and high quality maternity care within the Western Australian public health system by enabling Endorsed Eligible Midwives to access public maternity units through a state-wide Licensing Agreement (Word 96KB) for the purposes of delivering maternity services to their clients.
This policy recognises the differing needs and preferences of women and maximises the potential of midwives, obstetricians, general practitioners and other providers of maternity care to provide a collaborative, coordinated multidisciplinary approach to maternity service delivery.
