Enrolled Nurse Medication Administration Competency

Enrolled nurses who wish to complete a medication administration competency are referred to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s approved programs of study (external site).

• Since the transition to the National Registration and Registration Scheme on 1 July 2010, enrolled nurses are required to complete a National Board approved program of study to obtain their Medication Administration Competency.
• Enrolled nurses who completed a medication administration competency prior to this date are considered to be deemed competent.

From EN to RN

Once you have completed an enrolled nursing course you might later decide to progress your career into registered nursing or midwifery. Some people choose this as an alternative pathway into university if they were unable to gain direct entry. Others work and gain further experience as an enrolled nurse both before and while they study to become a registered nurse or midwife.

This mode of study is varied and it is recommended that you contact the education providers directly for information about their entry requirements.
