Ear, nose and throat non-urgent referrals from General Practitioners

To ensure patients access timely care and appropriate management of their conditions WA Health ENT specialist services will only accept referrals suitable for specialist care. This section provides the instructions for specific conditions where referral criteria is required to be met.

Criteria for adult referrals have been in place since July 2017. From 1 December 2018 criteria will be applied to paediatric referrals as described below.

Referrals will continue to be submitted to the Central Referral Service using the general adult or paediatric referral forms.

Referrals for patients who do not meet the criteria will be returned for ongoing management in the community but may be re-referred if the condition becomes appropriate for specialist review.

Indications for urgent referral are included and the GP should telephone the on-call ENT Registrar at the relevant hospital (via the hospital switchboard):

  • Fiona Stanley Hospital – phone 6152 2222 and fax urgent referral directly to Fiona Stanley Hospital Referrals: 6152 9762
  • Perth Children's Hospital – phone 6456 2222
  • Royal Perth Hospital – phone 9224 2244
  • Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital – phone 6457 3333.
