Notification of midwife entering into private practice

In order for a midwife to enter into private practice as a midwife she/he must first notify the intention to do so to the Department of Health.

Relevant legislation

The statutory requirement to report the intention to enter private practice as a midwife is specified in Regulation 3 of the Health (Notifications by Midwives) Regulations 1994 (external site).

Who must be notified

Under the Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1911 (external site), the Chief Health Officer must be notified. Notifications are sent to the Nursing and Midwifery Office.
