Mental health 80 initiative (MH 80)

WA Health are offering an additional number of opportunities for Newly Qualified Registered and Enrolled nurses to participate in a 6 month mental health transition to practice program.

This is fantastic opportunity for NQNM to transition into a specialty that continues to expand and offer diverse workplace opportunities.


Applications have now closed for the MH80 initiative. Further Mental Health opportunities will be available in the July GradConnect process.


Various WA Health facilities will be offering positions and upon application, applicants will be asked to nominate their preferred geographical location of work under the following headings.

  • WA Country Health Service (WACHS)
  • North Metro Health Service (NMHS)
  • South Metro Health Service (SMHS)
  • East Metro Health Service (EMHS)
  • Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS)

Eligibility criteria

  1. Current AHPRA registration as a registered nurse or enrolled nurse OR
  2. Anticipated AHPRA registration as a registered nurse or enrolled nurse no later than 31 August, 2021.
  3. Must be eligible to work in Australia – preference will be given to Australian citizens and permanent residents and New Zealand citizens
  4. You are eligible to apply if you have previously participated in a non-mental health nursing graduate program within the last two years (completed studies from 2019).

  • Successful registered nurse applicants will be given the opportunity and funding support to complete post graduate mental health studies at a nominated WA university.
  • On completion of the program , WACHS participants will be still eligible for,and have the opportunity to apply for a WACHS non-mental health transition to practice program offered through subsequent GradConnect processes.

  • You will not be required to upload a curriculum vitae or resume, however the online application questions will request information that is usually contained in such documents.
