COVID-19 update – 26 December 2020

Updated: 1300hrs WST

The Department of Health has today reported five new cases of COVID-19 in Western Australia, bringing the State’s total to 853.

The confirmed cases are all in hotel quarantine. Three cases are female, two male – all related to overseas travel.

One additional positive result was also detected in a female returned traveller who is in hotel quarantine. However, following public health interviews conducted today, it has been determined that this person previously had the virus in the United Kingdom, is considered recovered and therefore not contagious. The weak positive result is based on residual viral fragments – that are not infectious. She will continue to complete the remainder of her quarantine in hotel.

This case has been removed from the total case count for Western Australia, as it has previously been counted in another jurisdiction.

WA Health is monitoring 12 active cases and 832 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

Yesterday 452 people presented to WA COVID clinics – 452 were assessed and 451 swabbed.

There have been 612,889 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 99,437 were from regional WA.
