COVID-19 update – 24 April 2020

The Department of Health has today reported the eighth COVID-19 death in Western Australia.

An Artania cruise ship passenger, in his 70s, died in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

There were two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the State’s total to 548.

Both cases are from metropolitan Perth. One case is related to overseas travel and one is still under investigation.

As with all new confirmed cases, contact tracing is underway to ensure all close contacts are notified and advised to self-isolate.

There are 20 confirmed COVID-19 patients in Perth metropolitan hospitals – four of whom are in ICU.

To date 32,590 people have tested negative for COVID-19 in Western Australia. Of those, 5,738 people have returned negative tests in regional WA.

WA has a total of 464 recovered cases – 53 of these are in the regions.
