COVID-19 update – 31 July 2020

The Department of Health has reported one new case of COVID-19 in Western Australia overnight.

The woman in her 30s is a returned traveller from overseas and is in hotel quarantine.

WA’s total number of COVID-19 cases is now 666.

There are seven active cases in the State – five Western Australians, one from interstate and one from overseas.

To date, 650 people have recovered from the virus in WA.    

Yesterday 706 people presented to WA COVID-19 clinics – 677 were assessed and 672 were swabbed.

There have been 249,789 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 42,074 were from regional WA.

Note: WA is changing the way cases of COVID-19 are reported, bringing WA reporting closer into line with other Australian jurisdictions.

As of tomorrow - 1 August 2020 - daily reporting will include only confirmed cases diagnosed by nose and throat swabs.

Historical cases (diagnosed through a blood test and indicative of infection in the past) are no longer infectious and present no risk to the community. Historical cases will be removed from the State total, meaning the total case count will reduce.

The Department will continue to publish historic cases on its website.
