COVID-19 update 8 September 2022

The Department of Health will transition to a weekly COVID-19 statement from next week, in line with a national approach which is endorsed by Chief Health Officers. 

The last daily statement will be Friday 9 September 2022, and the first weekly report will be made available next Friday, 16 September and then every Friday morning.

WA Health is reporting a total of 1,088 new cases to 4pm yesterday. There are currently 5,855 active cases in Western Australia.

The latest figures from overnight show, there were 201 people with COVID-19 in hospital, 7 in ICU.

Sadly, today’s report includes 12 deaths, dating back to 22 July, which were reported to WA Health yesterday – a man in his 70s, a man and a woman in their 80s, three men and five women in their 90s and one woman who was over 100.

Of the 1,088 cases, 319 were confirmed via PCR test, the remaining 769 were self-reported positive rapid antigen tests.

A total of 2,631 PCR tests were conducted at either state-run or private pathology clinics yesterday.

WA has recorded 1,138,070 cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
