Caution advised after sewage overflow in the Canning River

WA Health is advising people to avoid contact with a section of the Canning River following a sewage overflow near Astley Street in Gosnells.

People are advised to stay out of the water and not paddle or swim upstream of the Kent Street Weir.

The river has not been closed but caution is advised when using the waterway as it can take 48 to 72 hours after a sewage overflow for a water body to return to a safe condition.

Signs have been erected in the area advising people to stay out of the water until further notice.

The Swan River Trust is working with the Department of Health and the public will be advised when it is safe to use the river.
