Falls prevention study gets international recognition in the Lancet

A research project that aimed to educate patients and carers about keeping safe while in hospital has proved so successful that it is featured in the internationally renowned Lancet medical journal.

Dr Anne-Marie Hill from The University of Notre Dame Australia led the research assisted by WA Health Clinical Lead Geriatrician for Falls Prevention, Dr Nick Waldron. The research trialled an educational intervention in rehabilitation wards and reduced falls by 40 per cent across the whole ward.

The research, undertaken using a State Health Research Advisory Council Research Translation Program grant, was carried out across 8 sites in Metropolitan Perth.
