Congratulations to WA Health researcher and leading breast cancer surgeon Christobel Saunders who was part of a start-up company that won an invitation to St James Palace in London to talk about its work on an innovative medical tool.
OncoRes was established to commercialise a WA-developed imaging tool that helps breast cancer surgeons delineate healthy from cancerous breast tissue interoperatively – reducing the likelihood of patients having to go under the knife multiple times.
The company was one of two Australian start-ups given the opportunity to present its work to an international audience of influential investors, tech entrepreneurs and industry professionals recently after being named joint winner of the Pitch@Palace competition.
Pitch at the Palace was started by Duke of York Prince Andrew to provide a platform to amplify and accelerate the work of entrepreneurs. The Prince was among the palace audience.
While there is no cash prize for Pitch@Palace winners, they are given the opportunity to present to a global audience and have their projects promoted actively to the Pitch@Palace Network.
While Professor Saunders did not represent OncoRes at the palace presentation, she leads clinical development of the hand-held imaging device and has been involved in the project since its inception.
The device was developed by biomedical engineers from the University of Western Australia with clinical input from Department of Health surgeons and pathologists.
