Aboriginal employment

SMHS is committed to ensuring that our health services are delivered by people who are representative of the communities we serve.
SMHS is strongly committed to increasing employment opportunities for Aboriginal people and strongly encourage job applications from Aboriginal people.
Aboriginal employees bring diverse knowledge, skills and understanding of their histories, traditions and culture to the health service. Increasing the employment of Aboriginal people in SMHS sites will offer the opportunity to deliver better services and health outcomes for Aboriginal patients and families. It will also provide employment and social, cultural and economic opportunities for local Aboriginal people.
Our Aboriginal Employment Action Plan (PDF 637KB) outlines key strategies for achieving our target of increasing the number of Aboriginal people employed across SMHS.
