Most people with respiratory illnesses such as influenza or COVID-19 will experience mild symptoms that can be
managed at home.
This campaign aims to raise awareness to the general public in the metropolitan area of the available health care
options if they are experiencing mild or worsening respiratory symptoms.

Objectives
Raise awareness to the general public in the metropolitan area of the available health care options if they are
experiencing mild or worsening respiratory symptoms.
Key messages
- Most people with respiratory illnesses will experience mild symptoms that can be managed at home.
- If your symptoms worsen, there are health care options available.
- For mild symptoms, such as fever, cough, fatigue, headache, runny nose, take care of yourself and rest and
recover at home.
- For worsening symptoms, call your GP or GP respiratory clinic, visit a pharmacy or call healthdirect Australia
on 1800 022 222.
- For severe or life-threatening symptoms, such as severe shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chest pain
or coughing up blood, call Triple Zero 9000) for an ambulance.

Leave emergency departments for emergencies. Most mild respiratory symptoms can be managed at home. If they worsen, see your GP, pharmacy or call Health Direct.
