Specialist youth service now has a new home

Youth Axis, a support group for young people with mental illness, has moved into its new home.

Managed by the North Metropolitan Health Service Mental Health, Youth Axis provides specialist youth mental health services to young people aged 16 to 24 across the Perth metropolitan area.

At its new home in Salvado Road, Wembley, Youth Axis is part of the specialist youth mental health services that recognise and target the complex needs of youth.

Three quarters of adults with psychiatric disorders experienced the onset of their illness by age 24, making early intervention services for young people and their families essential.

The centre’s staff includes a skilled multidisciplinary team, comprising a consultant psychiatrist, community mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social work and psychology staff.

Since its start in July 2013, Youth Axis has been funded through a service agreement between the Mental Health Commission and the North Metropolitan Health Service.
