WA Safety and Quality Point Prevalence Survey

The Quality Improvement and Change Management Unit (QICM) in conjunction with WoundsWest conducted a system-wide point prevalence survey in May 2014.

All public inpatient metropolitan (14) and country (6) hospitals (including Joondalup Health Campus and Peel Health Campus) with 40 or more beds were involved in the survey.

The survey collected valuable information which will be used to improve patient safety across WA Health. The survey questions focused on six safety and quality topic areas based on the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards including:

  • Healthcare Associated Infections (Standard 3)
  • Medication safety (Standard 4)
  • Patient identification (Standard 5)
  • Pressure injuries prevention and management (Standard 8)
  • Falls prevention (Standard 10)
  • Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) prevention (Australian Safety and Quality Goal for Health Care).
