SiREN - Sexual Health and Blood-borne Virus Applied Research and Evaluation Network

About SiREN

SiREN is the WA Sexual Health and Blood-borne Virus Applied Research and Evaluation Network.

SiREN is coordinated by the Western Australian Centre for Health Promotion Research (WACHPR) and supported by the Sexual Health and Blood-borne Virus Program (SHBBVP) in the WA Department of Health (WA Health).

SiREN aims to:

  • promote and stimulate opportunities for collaboration between WA sexual health and blood‑borne virus service providers and researchers
  • translate research findings into evidence-based practice
  • foster links nationally with other sexual health and blood-borne virus research centres:
    • Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS)
    • Kirby Institute (formerly The National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research)
    • Centre for Social Research in Health (CHSR).

Objectives

The objectives of SiREN are to:

  • identify sexual health and BBV research and evaluation projects for priority populations within WA
  • develop partnerships between WA-based researchers, SHBBVP and the national sexual health and BBV research centres
  • develop and enhance partnerships between government and non-government service providers, researchers and policy makers working towards the prevention and control of STIs and BBVs
  • contribute to an evidence base to inform the Department of Health WA's policy and decision making for the prevention and control of STIs and BBVs within WA
  • contribute to the national sexual health and BBV research agenda, in particular development of the national STI, hepatitis and HIV strategies 2014-2017.
