Health change reflects population growth

A new Health Service will be established to oversee and manage the delivery of hospital and health services to communities in the high population growth areas in Perth's eastern corridor.

The East Metropolitan Health Service, which will come into effect on 1 July 2016, will contain the tertiary Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) as well as the new Midland Public Hospital, and Armadale, Bentley and Kalamunda hospitals. A transition to these arrangements will start shortly so that the health service is fully established by Friday 1 July 2016.

Meeting the health care needs for the people in high growth areas such as Ellenbrook, Forrestfield, Armadale and Canning Vale were prime factors in establishing the new service.

With RPH as part of the East Metropolitan Health Service, Perth's eastern suburbs will have a service that covers every health need, resulting in better managed coordination and integration of clinical services and ensuring more efficient service delivery and budgeting between the hospitals.

There are currently four Health Services covering the north and south metropolitan area, WA country areas and the speciality Child and Adolescent Health Service.
